The success of romantic webcomics
There is a place for stories about love and romance in the vast webcomic universe. Romantic webcomics, popular with the shojo demographic of manga, are still appearing online, with some being more popular than others. The Villainess Is a Marionette, and other similar titles have been quite successful, and now a live-action trailer for the series has added Cha Eunwoo to the mix.
You can watch the famous K-pop diva in a new YouTube trailer for The Villainess Is a Marionette. South Korean pop trio ASTRO’s Eunwoo, makes his acting debut here, assuming the role of Duke Raffaello Kidrey. His interpretation, unsurprisingly, has captivated followers.
There will likely be more online petitions for a complete adaptation of the manhwa now that word of this promotion has spread. In other words, Eunwoo is a good fit for Kidrey’s aesthetic, and the comic is successful enough to warrant a TV adaptation. Of course, Eunwoo will need to free up some time. The actor has been featured in Island this year and will be featured in A Good Day to Be a Dog in 2019.
In case you haven’t heard of him, Eunwoo is a South Korean actor who got his start in online series like To Be Continued before going on to star in more mainstream fare like Gangnam Beauty and Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung. The actor has been cast in the role of Kidrey after contributing to The Villainess Is a Marionette by recording the game’s original score.

“I woke up as Kayena Hill, the novel’s Villainess, praised as the greatest beauty in the empire. Who knew her story would catch my attention because I was her in my past life? Destined for terrible ends, I’ve died twice-but. I refuse to die a third time as a pawn in someone else’s scheme. I’m no longer the vain and naïve princess. Now that I know how the story will unfold, I’ll turn the tables around and have everyone dancing to my tune. This time, I’ll be the one pulling the strings.”
