The reaction from the US Department of Justice was immediate, and they announced on Thursday that they had filed a lawsuit against the SpaceX company headed by Elon Musk for hiring discrimination against refugees.

This is very serious because SpaceX falsely claimed it could only hire Americans or permanent resident “green card” holders, due to “export control laws” the company had to comply with, the department said in a statement.

“Our investigation determined that SpaceX unfairly screened out refugees based on their status and imposed what amounted to a hiring ban, without regard to their qualifications, in violation of federal law,” said Deputy Attorney General Kristen Clarke, quoted in the text. “Export control laws do not impose such hiring restrictions,” the department stressed.

These lawsuits are not neutral, and they seek redress, including financial, “for refugees deterred or denied employment opportunities at SpaceX because of this alleged discrimination”, it explains.

That’s not all, Elon Musk has a history with Tesla, which is already being sued by the State of California for racial discrimination at its Fremont factory. In December 2021, six women also filed a complaint against the same California site, accusing the electric car manufacturing group of tolerating sexual harassment (sauciness and unsolicited physical contact).
