This species of ginseng from Vietnam has the botanical name Panax vietnamensis and is considered a treasure of the forest and even a national treasure.
Scientists began research in 1973 and found that the saponin content of Ngoc Linh ginseng is higher than other ginseng species worldwide. It contains 52 saponins (saponin is the main component of ginseng), 17 amino acids, 20 trace elements and 0.1% attar. Due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-cancer effects, this variety is highly sought after in nature, so much so that it is now endangered and listed in the Red Book of nationally threatened species.

Ngoc Linh ginseng grows especially on the top of the homonymous mountain, from 1,200 to 2,000 meters above sea level, giving it its best quality. If it grows from elsewhere, the rate will be inferior.
In 2018, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc (current President of the country) visited the Ngoc Linh ginseng cultivation area of the Ngoc Linh – Kon Tum Joint Stock Company and was awarded the title of “National Treasure” on this occasion.
This visit showed this plant’s potential, which gives the inhabitants lucrative and stable jobs and allows the country to develop its pharmaceutical industry.
