One of the most well-known members of the Spider-Man Family, Anya Corazon (Araa), is featured in three of the four short stories in the first issue of Edge of Spider-Verse. Araa receives a visit from Madame Web, who explains that her body is changing at this time, which would account for the rapid onsets of pain and the reappearance of her totem tattoo. Araa is recruited by Madame Web for the more significant objective of defending the Spider-Verse, in addition to assisting Araa deal with the resurgence of the Sisterhood of the Wasp. Araa will be provided with a new outfit as part of the recruitment process for Madame Web.
Araa and Madame Web pay a visit to the two newest Spider-Verse heroes, Spider-Laird and Spider-Rex, but they remain tight-lipped on the nature of the danger that the Spider-Verse is currently facing. Due to Araa’s newly designed outfit and increased visibility, we couldn’t help but wonder whether the Madame Web movie will feature her in a live-action role. Isabela Merced was reportedly cast in Madame Web for a character that has yet to be revealed, but our best guess is that she will play Araa. There is not much information available about the storyline of Madame Web; however, if Sony Pictures decides to use the film to introduce even more heroes into its developing Spider-Man Universe, then it makes perfect sense for Isabela Merced to play Araa/Spider-Girl in the movie. Isabela Merced is a fantastic choice for the role. Since the actress is accustomed to taking the lead role in standalone franchises, the production company would be confident that Merced could handle the obligations involved in an Anya Corazon-centered spinoff if they made that decision.
The announcement of Marvel’s ambitions for the Spider-Verse comes at a time when both Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are trying to expand their use of the Multiverse. Spider-Man: No Way Home contributed to the opening of the Multiverse, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was responsible for taking Stephen Strange, America Chavez, and Scarlet Witch on an expedition across dimensions. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse are the titles of the following animated films from Sony Pictures that will serve as sequels to 2018’s Into the Spider-Verse. In the meantime, Marvel Comics has also increased the amount of content available in its Multiverse with the releases of Avengers Forever, What If… Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse, and the multiverse storylines included in Avengers and Miles Morales: Spider-Man.
