Rumours send Pochettino to Manchester United and Zidane would replace him at PSG

With the recent sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjær, it is rumoured that the PSG coach is very interested in the Manchester United job, as he has labelled it to be his dream job in the past. He also finds Paris inconvenient since his family lives in London. Many might wonder why he might leave a project like PSG, but the answer is quite simple, the egos at the club that need to be managed are nothing like he’s done before. When he arrived at Tottenham, he was the one who built the team to his liking and players respected him for that he even managed the team to success they hadn’t seen since the 70s and 80s. On the other hand, at PSG, he inherited a team that he wasn’t familiar with and now has the team’s best player angry because of his demands to leave the club not being answered.

Likelihood of him managing Manchester United 90%

Mauricio Pochettino generally likes to play in a 4-2-3-1 formation with fast attacking wing-backs to get upfield. This means that Aaron Wan Bissaka will have to improve his attacking runs, dribbles, and crosses. It gets tougher in the midfield since he will have to play two central midfielders to include one of their best players in Bruno Fernandes. This means he will most likely play a Pogba or Van de Beek to play that attacking CM but who will play that sort of box-to-box midfielder or CDM who do the dirty work for guys like Pogba and Donny. As we saw in 2018 Pogba and Kante were really like the best of both worlds mashing perfectly together in that midfield. We saw that Fred or McTominay couldn’t do that at an elite level so the January transfer window will be crucial for Poch to find the glue to his midfield.

Lastly, the front line will feature Bruno Fernandes playing number 10 with Rashford and Sancho playing in the wing. The most difficult will be Ronaldo although he will be the ST, he will play a different role sometimes as Harry Kane did at Spurs he will have to use his height and strength to create opportunities for not only himself but for the cutting wingers as we saw the crucial role the likes of Son. Eriksen and Dele Alli played inside the box at Spurs.

Now to Zidane he definitely would prefer the France job and he knows it’s there for the taking. What plays a role here is how long is he ready to wait to coach France. It’s a difficult thing to predict but the relationship Zidane has with the Qatari nation is known and has even promoted the world cup there. Another side of the story nobody is looking at is his native city of Marseille who are fierce rivals with Parisians and have been for years and I think his recent declaration for the love of the city and the club definitely does make the PSG owners sweat a little. Lastly, this would not be the first time he has been rumoured to go to Paris since in 2018 PSG were eager to replace Unai Emery and the announced resignation of Zidane from Real seemed like a blessing in disguise, but it eventually didn’t happen. It is safe to say that PSG would be in trouble if Pochettino leaves, and Zidane does not arrive.

Although Unlikely let’s see how PSG might line up with Zidane. At Madrid he most of the time played a 4-3-3. At the back, you can have both Marquinhos and Kimpembe Hakimi, and Mendes would be perfect for him since loves wing backs that can cause trouble on the offensive side of the ball. In the midfield, a trio of Paredes, Verratti, and Gueye would be great nothing compared to Modric, Kroos, and Casemiro but definitely a midfield he could manage. Lastly, the front three of Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe just names scare all the defences around Europe, but Zidane likes his ST to play a CF role like Benzema did give Ronaldo and Bale more opportunities. The question is would the already frustrated Mbappe be ready to do that?
