Director Todd Phillips has released the first shot from the set of Joker: Folie à Deux, which shows actor Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker in Arkham Asylum. Warner Bros. Discovery is developing a follow-up to the critically acclaimed DC film that won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Set in a continuity not dissimilar to that of Else worlds, the first Joker film chronicles Arthur Fleck’s descent into the role of Gotham City’s most notorious clown. Phillips’ Joker franchise is unaffected by the changes being made by DC Studios to the DCU (previously known as the DCEU).
Phillips, who is set to direct the follow-up to Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix, confirmed today on his Instagram that production has begun. The director also unveiled the film’s first official image, which shows the Clown Prince of Crime within Arkham Asylum. Production on Joker: Folie á Deux has begun in Los Angeles and is scheduled to continue until the beginning of 2023. Read Phillips’s explanation below:
Exhaustive Details About Joker 2
A few known facts in Joker: Folie á Deux give us an idea of what to expect, even though most of the plot is being kept under wraps. One of the most notable new features of the sequel is the participation of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. The next Joker flick will feature more than just that; it will feature an entire musical setting. It will be the first time a DC film features a musical style, with Joker: Folie á Deux.
In Joker: Folie á Deux, Zazie Beetz, who played Sophie Dumond in the previous film, will be back in the role. While only Phoenix and Beetz have been confirmed to return, many actors have joined the sequel’s cast. In recent months, cast members Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Jacob Lofland have joined Joker: Folie à Deux for as-yet-undisclosed roles. Harry Lawtey has also been cast in a mystery character for Joker: Folie à Deux, which has been teased about being a big one for the film. Despite the significant budget cuts occurring at Warner Bros. Discovery, Joker 2’s budget will be twice the original movie.
Joker: Folie à Deux has high expectations given its musical setting and the casting of Lady Gaga as the latest live-action iteration of Harley Quinn. Although many people have said Joker didn’t need a sequel, it’s still remarkable that the franchise is trying to expand, mainly because this seems to be a radical departure that might take the brand (and the DC universe) to interesting new places. Since filming has kicked off, it certainly won’t be long until set photographs and videos emerge, revealing what Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn will look like in Joker: Folie à Deux.
