The movie Avatar is back in theaters. The first Avatar was released in 2009, and director James Cameron’s science fiction film will be back on the big screen on September 23 for two weeks.
Walt Disney Studios announced that Avatar will be released in a remastered 4K “high dynamic range” version, a technology that offers more detail. The release comes ahead of Avatar: The Waterway, a sequel that will open on December 16.
Also, a new trailer for the original feature film has just landed online. Avatar remains the highest-grossing film of all time, with revenues of US$2.84 billion.
Director James Cameron did it all, writing and directing; Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver. The three-time Oscar winner tells the story of a wheelchair-bound former marine who is recruited to go to Pandora, an exolune where industrial groups are mining a rare mineral intended to solve the energy crisis on Earth. There he meets the Na’vi, a people of blue humanoids who refuse to see their world destroyed.
