The Simpsons has released the first look at the Death Note tribute that will appear in the upcoming Treehouse of Horror Halloween special for Season 34. Even though there has already been a Halloween-themed episode this season, we will still be getting the yearly special, which will feature three brand-new parodies. Not the least of these is the show’s first foray into the world of anime adaptations of the wildly successful Death Note series.
The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror XXXIII will include spoofs of The Babadook and Westworld, as well as a full-length Death Note parody entitled “Death Tome.” We get to witness the full breadth of the kind of production we’ll get, thanks to a clip that reportedly appeared on a FOX station in Latin America. From DR Movie, the same company that worked on the original Death Note anime, comes a complete visual overhaul that does away with the series’ typical appearance.
The next Treehouse of Horror episode of The Simpsons will air on FOX stations at 8PM EST on Sunday, October 30. The episode will be accessible on Hulu the following day. The “Death Tome” piece is advertised as coming second in the package overall, after a spoof of The Babadook starring Marge called “The Pookadook,” and before a third segment centered on Homer in Westworld and titled “Simpsonsworld.” It’s already obvious that this second installment will be vastly different from the rest.
The title, “Death Tome,” hints at a future where Lisa has had enough of the Earth being harmed and polluted and decides to take matters into her own hands. However, if the anime is anything like Death Note, things might not go as smoothly as she hopes.
