Deadline has exclusively reported that Katelyn Rose Downey (The Princess) and Anna Popplewell (Susan Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia) have joined the cast of the next Conjuring sequel, The Nun 2. Popplewell will reportedly play Marcella, the widowed mother of 10-year-old Sophie, according to Deadline; however, details regarding their roles in the film have yet to be formally announced.

They join previously confirmed cast members Bonnie Aarons (who is reprising her role as the title character), Storm Reid (who plays the invisible man), and Taissa Farmiga (who plays Sister Irene) in the film. Michael Chavez, who previously directed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, is back to handle the next entry in the series. The malicious Akela Cooper wrote the film’s script, with additions and changes made by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing. James Wan, who directed the original two Conjuring movies and is now a producer with The Safran Company’s Peter Safran, will work on the picture. The project has hired Gary Dauberman and Michael Clear as executive producers.

The planned sequel’s plot is still a mystery, although it’s been said that it will take place in 1950s France when the demon from the original film returns to wreak havoc once again. Fans of the franchise still have time to speculate about the picture until it arrives on September 8, 2023, providing moviegoers with some new dread. The Nun’s initial appearance in The Conjuring 2 scared viewers and quickly became a fan favourite, with some even calling her the film’s best aspect. In 2018, Aarons reprised her role as the demonic entity in The Nun’s spinoff. The film received mixed reviews from reviewers, but became the highest-grossing entry in the Conjuring franchise. With a new installment in the works, devotees of the horror genre can look forward to more of the same heart-pounding fear they’ve come to expect from the series.
