It is very complicated to create a box office of the best feature films of Tom Hanks as the filmography of the actor is rich, from “Forrest Gump” to the recent “Elvis,” through “Saving Private Ryan” and “Pentagon Papers.” The actor has no difficulty sorting out his career and even takes a hard look at it.
At the last Cannes Film Festival, Tom Hanks was applauded alongside Austin Butler, Olivia DeJonge and Baz Lurhmann for the film Elvis. A fascinating biopic in which the actor finds one of his rare roles as an antagonist. That of Colonel Tom Parker, controversial manager of the King accused of having manipulated him for many years and who made the star a real business object.
The star has also found his old accomplice, Robert Zemeckis. After Forrest Gump, Alone in the World and The Pole Express, and before the drama Here, the pair collaborated on Pinocchio, a live adaptation of the Disney classic where Tom Hanks lends his features to the carpenter Geppetto. Finally, the actor is preparing his first novel, inspired by his long experience in Hollywood and entitled The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece. A book will be released in 2023 and trace the production of a super heroic blockbuster. Interviewed by people, the star said about it:
Tom Hanks’ filmography is rich, and knows what he is talking about. As one of the most popular actors on the planet, he started with comedies like Splash, Big or The Suburbanites before winning his first Oscar in 1994 for Philadelphia. He won his second statuette a year later for Forrest Gump. This was followed by numerous successes and artistic achievements, including Toy Story, Saving Private Ryan, The Green Line, Stop Me If You Can, Cloud Atlas and Sully, to name but a few.
No one knows how a movie gets made, although everyone thinks they do. I’ve made a ton of films and four of them are pretty good, in my opinion. I’m always surprised by how movies come together. The whole process is a miracle, from the glimmer of an idea to the image that appears on the screen.
Tom Hanks has pointed out that:
Making films is challenging work spread over a very long period. It has a lot of moments of joy ruined by an equal amount of self-loathing. It’s the best job in the world and also the most confusing job I know.
If he is pretty hard on the films in which he participated, except for the four, he did not reveal the titles; the actor revealed in 2021 to have taken immense pleasure in some shootings. Tom Hanks then cited his three favourite experiences for different reasons: An extraordinary team, Alone in the world and Cloud Atlas.
