In the wake of Armie Hammer’s sexual assault allegations earlier this year, Timothée Chalamet spoke out for the first time.

Timothée Chalamet has made a rare public statement in response to the sexual assault allegations levelled against Armie Hammer, the co-star in the film Call Me By Your Name.

Chalamet, 25, was asked about Hammer in a new interview with Time magazine and “demurred,” according to the publication.

While he understood the motivation behind the query, he refused to provide a partial answer, explaining that he didn’t want to give a partial answer.

They worked together on Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 film, Call Me By Your Name, and have remained friends afterwards. Hammer has left encouraging comments on Chalamet’s Instagram account as recently as October 2020.

As far as we know, Chalamet hasn’t responded to the allegations against Hammer in the media. This is the first time he’s spoken out about the topic, and his comments to Time are telling.

In March, it was reported that Hammer’s ex-girlfriend had accused him of sexual assault following an alleged rape incident in 2017. He has vehemently disputed all of the allegations levelled upon him. She reports that he allegedly slammed [her] head [against a wall] and struck [her] feet with a crop. Effie told reporters during a press conference that she was afraid for her life after the alleged assault, saying that he wouldn’t let her get away, no matter how hard she tried. She recalls being terrified and that he might harm her or, worse, kill her.

Hammer’s lawyer stated that what happened between Hammer and that woman was entirely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participating, thus denying the rape claim.

Additionally, his attorney stated that Mr. Hammer completely denies Effie’s claims. [Effie] texted Mr. Hammer on July 18, 2020, with explicit instructions about what she wanted him to do to her. In his response, Mr. Hammer was emphatic about his desire to end their relationship.
The Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating Hammer for a February sexual assault report opened by Effie.

Before Effie’s admission, several other women had come forward to say that Hammer had engaged in abusive behaviour and expressed violent desires. A month after being released by William Morris Endeavor, he no longer has an agent.

Shotgun Wedding, where Hammer had been set to act alongside Jennifer Lopez, is now starring Josh Duhamel, while The Offer features Miles Teller in Hammer’s stead.
