The epidemic in the USA, back to square one, March 2020
As everywhere before the vacations, it is the race for the tests of Covid 19, in particular in Miami (Florida). For several hundred meters, Americans wait patiently in their cars before being tested. The scenes are repeated everywhere and in all states, whether in California, Texas, Washington or even in Hawaii where the situation is drastically complicated.
The hotel chains in Hawaii thought they would recover the business lost since March 2020 but it’s the opposite, the cancellations are coming. In Colorado with the ski resorts, it’s the same events with cascading cancellations.
The anxiety is growing as Christmas approaches and especially after the holidays, will American companies be impacted by this health crisis and will investors be patient?
Inflation is becoming a concern as employees fear for their jobs and their homes. After President Biden’s dramatic message promising a deadly winter, Americans went from optimism to fear of tomorrow. Students no longer want to study at a distance. Being 20 years old in 2022 will be very hard.
It’s crowded in Brooklyn, one of New York’s neighbourhoods. “All this reminds me of March 2021. It’s a bit like being back at square one,” says a passer-by.
In this same district, masks are again mandatory everywhere in the city. The closures are multiplying for Covid cases or to give time to the employees to be tested. On Broadway, in Manhattan, the number of Covid and Omicron variant cases among comedians multiplied. Theatres are closing. A sign of the epidemic that is taking hold.
