it’s not uncommon for some topics in history to receive more attention than others. One such subject is World War II, the subject of countless films and television series. These classic WWII films and documentaries can be found in Netflix’s collection. However, more bizarre is to be found in the Netflix original film, “Camp Confidential: America’s Secret Nazis.”

Most of the strangest stories in history are unknown to us. A new perspective on Operation Paperclip can be gained from this Netflix Original storey. So, if you’re ready for some classified WWII action, then buckle up.

Camp Confidential: What is it?

On September 24, 2021, Netflix released Camp Confidential: America’s Secret Nazis. During and after World War II, the US government kept many secrets revealed in this 36-minute documentary. Nazi POWs were held at PO Box 1142 in Northern Virginia, which is now a post office (prisoners of war). However, the US military was more lenient with the prisoners in this prison camp than in other prisons.

The military believed that the high-ranking Nazi scientists could help because the US was at war with the USSR. The US military’s solution to the problem of the language barrier was a heinous one.

Camp Confidential’s World War II veterans: The Real Nazis of the United States

A strong anti-Nazi sentiment compelled many Jewish refugees from Europe to enlist in the United States military. It was a different storey for the German-speaking Americans who joined the army, as they were forced to mix with the Nazi prisoners of war.

Among these veterans are Peter Weiss and Arno Mayer, who had to keep their emotions in check to get the most out of their POWs. Arno Mayer was a guard for Wernher von Braun, Hitler’s chief rocket scientist. The documentary relies on animation in place of archival footage, but the veteran’s real-life interviews bring the story to life.

The shortlist for the Oscar nominations for this Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan-directed documentary has been announced. The film is one of 15 documentaries eligible for a nomination at this year’s Oscars.
