Anti-Restriction Protesters Head to Washington
Following the example of what happened in Canada and the truck march on Ottawa, other countries such as France, the United Kingdom and Italy have been inspired to join in. Now the Americans are joining this protest movement.
A few hundred truckers and demonstrators opposed to the health measures implemented against Covid-19 in the United States gathered this Wednesday in Southern California to form a “convoy” towards the American capital, 4,200 km away.
The organizers of this “people’s convoy”, supported by many conservative anti-vaccine and anti-mask organizations, planned to arrive on the outskirts of the capital Washington on March 5 for a show of force.
“It is time to reopen the country”, they proclaim on their website, where the number of donations received reached today more than 460.000 dollars, according to these emulators of the Canadian demonstrators who, after a similar convoy, blocked the capital Ottawa for more than three weeks.
This slogan attracted some 200 vehicles to the parking lot of a stadium in Adelanto, a small town in Southern California, most of them decorated with American flags and banners proclaiming “freedom”. It is from here that the convoy to Washington must leave.
Brian Brase, one of the truckers leading the convoy, wants “a return to normalcy. “We are challenging the emergency measures that have been implemented and we want an end to all the mask and (mandatory) vaccination orders for federal employees and caregivers,” he says.
The rejection of COVID-19 vaccines and masking has become a dividing line in American society, if not a political marker.

Several Republican governors have used the protection of individual liberties as a reason for instituting mask bans in their states.
