Manga and webtoon fans are grieving the death of a favourite artist today. According to South Korean media, Solo Leveling’s artist has died. Just 40 years old, Dubu, or Seong-rak Jang as he was known, died.
For unknown reasons, Redice Studio reports that Jang died of a cerebral hemorrhage caused by an unspecified medical condition. More than the fact that a private funeral was held, little other information was released about the artist’s tragic demise. As for Solo Leveling’s future, the company refused to speculate on how Dubu’s death would affect it.
In case you were unaware, Dubu has been in charge of Solo Leveling’s art since the manga’s launch in March of this year. Chugong’s webtoon series has become one of the world’s most popular. Solo Leveling is currently working on a video game and plans to make its anime. An anime based on Chugong and Dubu’s work was announced by A-1 Pictures just a few weeks ago; thus, this terrible news has hit fans hard.
If you haven’t read Solo Leveling yet, you can get English translations at Tapas, Pocket Comic, and other places.
