Ryan Gosling was asked about his character of Ken in the much-awaited “Barbie” Ryan Gosling slipped a definition, to say the least intriguing … to feed a little more impatience around this enigmatic project.
During an interview given to Entertainment Tonight, then in promotion for The Gray Man, Ryan Gosling said a few words about the highly anticipated Barbie by Greta Gerwig, in which he plays Ken, alongside Margot Robbie in the title role. This Barbie is a beautiful enigma, expected in France on July 19, 2023. We know its cast, a first-rate ensemble, and we know that there is dancing and rollerblading, but beyond that, we are swimming in the most perfect ignorance.
Ryan Gosling decided to come out of his silence to discuss his character. The event and that he speaks because the actor of Drive, Only God Forgives, or First Man, has made a specialty of saying the least possible to convey the most. But let’s get back to our famous dolls. Asked about his role in the film by Greta Gerwig, the companion of Eva Mendes, said:
“I think Ken’s life is more difficult than the Gray Man’s. Ken has no money, no job, no car, he has no home. He’s going through some tough stuff.
Based on what his character endures in the Russo brothers’ film, due July 22, 2022, on Netflix, if we take Ryan Gosling at his word, he’s just portrayed Ken in his “homeless” version, as yet unseen in toy stores or in the crowd of animated Barbie productions aimed at young audiences (you know, those things with very, very low-cost graphics…).
Ryan Gosling doesn’t stop there and skillfully suggests that the surprise will be big. All this in an expert tongue-in-cheek way, but who would dare to reproach anything to Ryan Gosling (except the toy giant Mattel, ready to ruin him and then wipe him off the face of the earth in case he reveals too much, ed.)
His sentence is a model of I’ll tell you everything, but I won’t say anything “It’s not what you think unless it’s what you think… Maybe you know what it is, but I don’t think it’s what you think it is. Wait, what exactly are we talking about?
What an actor Ryan is! He’s said just enough to keep us guessing and cover his ass. But on closer inspection, the fact that Ken is helpless feeds the rumor that the two characters could be toys catapulted, somehow, into the real world. And thus would be without their dream life, including luxury cars, villas and ponies. From this point of view, the famous rollerblade race photographed could have started in their toy world, and by who knows what sorcery, continued and ended in the real world…
