Quentin Tarantino severely criticizes the film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Once Upon a time… in Hollywood is Quentin Tarantino’s latest film. To the great despair of his fans, who are impatiently waiting for his tenth film. And which, according to the director, could well be his last… We’re still a long way from that, and in the meantime, the author of Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained has been making a series of statements, each one saltier than the last.
At the end of June 2022, Quentin Tarantino gave his opinion on the great success of 2022 Top Gun: Maverick, sang the praises of Jaws and sent a tackle to the throat of François Truffaut’s cinema. In top form, he continued his work as a commentator on the 7th art and spoke about a mythical saga adored by the public: Indiana Jones.
In fact, in the Reel blend podcast, he gave his opinion on the third opus of the saga, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. And watch out, it stings!
The film was released in 1989, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford and Sean Connery; Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is often cited as the audience’s favourite. The adventure film brings together Indiana Jones and his father in a race against time with the Nazis to get their hands on the Holy Grail, and ended the year at the top of the world box office.
The film was a worldwide success; it is funny, breathtaking, and spectacular. Thanks to the popularity of Sean Connery, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade has convinced just about everyone except Quentin Tarantino…
Quentin Tarantino. “I prefer The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to the one with Sean Connery. I don’t like The Last Crusade, I don’t like it at all. It’s so dull. It’s boring. And he (Sean Connery) doesn’t play a compelling character; everything is very predictable. It’s like, Stop or my mother will shoot!
It’s no longer a criticism, but a downward spiral of the film of the king of Hollywood, Steven Spielberg. Instead of just saying he doesn’t like the movie, he says he prefers the fourth opus with Shia Labeouf, released in 2008. This saga film has been the least appreciated by the public to date. He even says that the character played by Sean Connery is a failure. And to finish off his combo attack, he compares it to Stop or My Mother Will Shoot! A comedy that can easily be classified as one of the biggest flops in Sylvester Stallone’s career.
Is it that Quentin Tarantino has gone too far, the future will tell, and we are waiting for the answer of Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford. Unfortunately, Sean Connery will not be able to defend himself. He left us in 2020.
