Leonardo DiCaprio, a star in the service of ecology
In 1998, at the age of 24, he created his own foundation with the mission to protect the Earth’s remaining wilderness areas and to find ways to make the relationship between man and nature more harmonious.
The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation receives grants and supports information campaigns and audiovisual projects, Leonardo DiCaprio, helps to ensure that causes such as the preservation of biodiversity, the protection of oceans and forests and the fight against climate change receive the attention they deserve, and that funds are available to defend them.
Leonardo DiCaprio also supports several environmental organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, Pristine Seas and Oceans 5, and serves as an advisor to The Solutions Project, an organization that promotes clean and renewable energy. In 2014, the Clinton Foundation awarded him the prestigious Global Citizen Award for his philanthropic work.
Mr. DiCaprio was appointed by the President of the United Nations as a Messenger of Peace, mandating him to promote the fight against climate change.
