Andrea Smadja-C19 July 2 2021 The Covid-19 pandemic accelerated this week in all regions of the world except Latin America, with 13% fewer new cases compared to the previous week. The pandemic accelerated in all other regions: +30% in Europe, +25% in Africa, +10% in the Middle East, +5% in the United States/Canada, +4% in Asia. In Oceania, infections have also accelerated, by 31%, but the coronavirus circulates little there (323 cases per day). Burma is the country where the epidemic has accelerated the most (+119%, 1200 new cases per day), among those that have recorded at least 1000 daily infections over the past week. This is followed by Spain (+80%, 6300), the UK (+71%, 20 600), Tunisia (+69%, 4500) and Cuba (+68%, 2700). RECORD NUMBER OF INFECTIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA South Africa, the country most affected by the new coronavirus on the continent, recorded on Friday a record of 24,000 new contaminations, to exceed a total of two million cases, according to official figures. The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Friday recorded "24,270 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2,019,826," it said in a statement. Friday's figures are a daily record, surpassing the previous 21,980 recorded in January 2021.
