Another train derailment in Ohio
It’s becoming a dangerous habit with a freight train that derailed in Springfield Township, Clark County in the United States.
More than 20 of the 212 cars on the Norfolk Southern train derailed and four tankers were identified as containing non-hazardous materials, according to the update.
Emergency response personnel were dispatched to the scene and a hazmat team was deployed to determine the extent of the incident as a precautionary measure, it added. There is no indication at this time that there was any damage or public health risk, she noted, adding “there is no evidence of a spill at the site.”
Ohio State and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine tweeted late in the day that “we do not believe hazardous materials were involved” in the derailment, adding that President Joe Biden and his transportation secretary have contacted him to offer federal assistance.
This latest rail accident comes a month after another Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed in East Palestine, Ohio.
