The Fantastic Four release was pushed back to 2025

Director Matt Shakman has provided a significant update on the status of the upcoming Fantastic Four film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This might mean that the film’s much-anticipated cast revelation is coming sooner rather than later. After a successful run as the solo director of the Disney+ series WandaVision, Shakman is returning to the MCU to helm Marvel’s First Family.

Shakman said in an interview with The Wrap that production on the MCU Fantastic Four film will go off sometime in the first half of 2024. Because Fantastic Four has been pushed back from its initial release date of November 2024 to February 2025, this announcement makes sense. There is finally a concrete schedule for when the highly suspected cast of the Fantastic Four’s MCU debut should be unveiled. In an interview with Collider, Shakman confirmed the start of filming and addressed the speculation around the Fantastic Four’s probable roster, saying, “All the casting stuff you see is all speculations.”

If the Fantastic Four is to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when will its cast be revealed?

With filming beginning in early 2024 and a release date set for February 2025, the current plan for Fantastic Four is in line with Marvel Studios’ typical production timeline for their movies. Since Marvel Studios needs to cast the Fantastic Four’s lead parts by the end of the year, the identities of those actors will be revealed in 2023. Knowing how eager fans are to learn who will play the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios will likely similarly reveal the new cast members to how the studio has had the most success in the past.

What Happened To The Fantastic Four?

The announcement of the Fantastic Four cast should follow Marvel Studios’ tradition of thrilling audiences with previews of upcoming films and Disney+ exclusive content. When San Diego Comic-Con kicks off in July, Hall H will likely be filled with fans and media eager to learn who will lead the MCU’s Fantastic Four for the next decade. Unless Kevin Feige comes out on stage to announce the Fantastic Four’s casting, it’s hard to imagine a disclosure that tops last year’s MCU Multiverse Saga announcement.

We know that the Fantastic Four cast will be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con; the only question remaining is who will play the titular heroes. Names like Diego Luna (Andor), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Ryan Gosling (La La Land), and others have been bandied around in the past year. Some of those names were beginning to gain support in the fan community, but Shakman’s most recent revision effectively debunks them. John Krasinski has denied having talked to Marvel about playing Mister Fantastic, despite widespread speculation that he will be cast in the role. To what extent Shakman and Marvel will ask him back and work to form the team around him, or if they will instead cast a new Fantastic Four, is yet to be seen.
